ITINERARY DETAILS : Erg Chebbi via Ouarzazat & Roses valley 4 days
Exploring the Sahara desert by camels whether on an overnight excursion or a longer desert « amodo » is one of Morocco’s signature activities and most rewarding wilderness experiences
Morocco’s most evocation stretch of Sahara sand are Erg Chebni, near Merzouga , and Erg Chigaga near M’Hamid and Zagoura, and past the more accessible Tinfou dunes.
Only consider doing your camel trek in autumn ( September and October) or winter ( November to early March ). Outside these months, the desert experience grueling extremes of heat.
Day 1: Depart at 8am from Marrakech via Tichka pass (2260m), enjoing the spectacular view of the Atla mountains, visit Telouet Kasbahs, lunch will be a Ait Benhaddou town the holyood of Morocco classified by UNESCO World Heritage Site, a visit to the Atlas Studio overnight in the Hotel a Ourzazate city.
Day 2: Pick up and start our journy at 9:00am drive along the Drâa River, one of the longest rivers in Morocco, enjoying the time en the way to Merzouga, Stop along the great sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, a visit to the black Gnoua people, two hours camel ride thrugh the dunes, overnight under a Nomadic tent or under one million stars.
Day 3: wake up to enjoy the sunrise from the gold dunes of sand ride camels back to Merzouga for breakfast and shower at 9:00am, drive to the Todra Gorge for lunch continue to the Dades Gorge, hotel overnight.
Day 4: After Breakfast at the hotel, pick up at 9:00am, drive via the thousand kasbah route, the rose vally, a visit to Skoura oisis with it’s authentic 17 century kasbah, a visit to Taourirt Kasbah, the former residence of the Glaoui, lunch in Ourzazat, 4 hours drive via the Tichka pass with stops along the way back to Marrakech.
